No one of us can’t avoid the natural process of aging. But if you maintain a daily routine of  a good food habit then you can slow it down.

If you provide yourself a lively food package full of antioxidants, nutrients, healthy fats and water, your body show the gratitude towards it by your glowing skin.

Skin is regarded as the mirror of our internal environment and it shows us what you have put inside. No skin care cosmetics like cream, serum, lotion, washes can protect better your skin than your foods.

Aging is unavoidable, but you take some measures to turn your biological clock back to look younger like eat well, quit smoking, sleep well, don't take stress and exercise a lot [1].

Research shows that fresh vegetables and fruits can reduce your aging lines and brighten the face.

Knowingly or unknowingly we eat or miss these items, so, this article brings you the knowledge of twelve food items having anti-aging.

Let’s go to one step ahead to stop the clicking of aging clock a while.

1. Papaya

When it comes to the anti-aging effect of foods, papaya comes first. I know many of you (including me) don’t like papaya at all, but if you want to provide yourself a glowing skin and slow aging then you have to indulge yourself in it.

It is loaded with antioxidants, vitamins (A, C, E and K) and minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus, which help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on skin [2].

The huge antioxidants present in it may helps to fight the free radicals which is a primary cause of aging.

Papaya contains the enzyme papain which is a renowned anti-inflammatory agents. Eating papaya regularly can give you a healthy glowing skin. You can use a papaya mask on face to rinse off the dry skin cells as well.

Tips: Eat it raw, eating raw can give you 
the best results because cooking 
can destroy all the essential nutrients of it.

2. Tomatoes

Tomatoes, one of the most important piece of elements you can avail to slow down the aging process.

Tomatoes are high in a plant pigment lycopene which has many health benefits (it reduces cardiovascular disease, stroke and prostate cancer) along with anti-aging properties.

It can protects your skin from sun damage and reduces wrinkle in a considerable amount [3].

Tips: Eat it raw in salad. 
Cook it with olive oil (healthy fat) 
to absorb the lycopene well into the body.

3. Red bell pepper

Red bell pepper is loaded with antioxidants, carotenoid is one of them. Carotenoidis a plant pigment having anti-inflammatory properties also. It can protect the skin from some toxins, sun damage and environmental pollution. 

Red bell pepper contains Vitamin C as well which helps to build collagen, the strength and elasticity provider of skin. As you age your body’s collagen production capacity decreases that leads to formation of wrinkles. So, it can help you to rebuild your facial collagen to slow down the aging.

Tips: Slice and try it raw in salad or stir fry
it for very less time.

4. Broccoli

Broccoli is loaded with natural anti-aging, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory goodness. It contains Vitamin C and K, different elements with anti-oxidant properties, calcium, lutein and fiber.

Vitamin C facilitate the collagen production which helps to reduce the wrinkles. Make a habit of eating broccoli regularly in winters.

Tips: Eat it after steaming. You can make a soup,
but don’t overcook it.

5. Spinach

Spinach is rich in antioxidants, vitamins (A, C, E, K), magnesium and plant based heme iron which provide us numerous health benefits.

These leafy vegetables is a rich source of vitamin C which helps to rebuild the collagen.

Vitamin A and K helps to keep your hair strong, shiny and reduces the inflammation of skin [4].

Tips: Clean and eat it as an ingredient of smoothie 
or saute for very less time or try to eat in salad. 
Don’t overcook it.

6. Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a good source of anti-oxidants namely beta-carotene which is responsible for the orange-pink colour and it transforms to vitamin A [5].

Vitamin A can give you healthier, soft and supple skin, more skin elasticity, shiny and bright hairs.

Except vitamin A, vitamin C and E are also present in sweet potatoes. It can protect us from different free radicals.

Vitamin C can provide you a glowing and brighten skin from within.

Tips: Saute and use in sandwiches.

7. Nuts

As you all know different nuts, specially almonds are a rich source of Vitamin E which helps us to repair our skin tissue, hydrates a lot, protects from sun damage.

Presence of omega-3 fatty acids possesses anti-inflammatory efficacy that helps you to achieve a healthy glow from within [6].

Tips: Eat a handful of almonds 
in your snack time without peeling, 
peel is the home of 50% antioxidants or more.

8. Spices

Indian cuisine is rich in different spices. It is used not to just add flavour on food but it has numerous health benefits also.

They help your skin to look younger in various way, like cinnamon has collagen boosting properties that helps to regain skin’s elasticity and smoothness [7].

Some spice component may help the skin from damage due to high blood sugar level and protects the skin from sun damage.

Turmeric has curcumin which protect us against environmental free radicals. This antioxidants help you to slow down your age and hide he fine lines and wrinkles [8].

Tips: Add to foods as well as in smoothie, 
eat raw ginger, garlic and turmeric.

9. Dark chocolate

This is the most important anti-aging food item you eat often unknowingly. It is loaded with antioxidant.

Instead of providing numerous health benefits it can slow down aging process and make you look younger [9].

The antioxidant present in dark chocolate called flavonols is a promising skin protecting factor from sun damage. Flavonol provide you better smoothness, thickness and hydration for your skin.

You’ll find higher flavonol content in the dark chocolate which contains 70% cocoa solids [10].

Tips: Melt a sizable amount of dark chocolate 
in your mouth, don’t munch it immediately.

10. Green tea

Green tea is high in antioxidants which helps to fight the environmental toxins and free radicals.

During metabolism or stress the free radicals can generate and harm the cell by oxidation of DNA, proteins and cell membranes. Antioxidants can help to manage this free radicals damage by changing their structure [11].

Polyphenol is the main antioxidant found in green tea helps to protect the skin collagen and reduces sun damage to slow down the aging.

Tips: Drink it between meals or after a meal, 
don’t take it on empty stomach.

11. Pomgranate

Beautiful red pomgranate is full of antioxidants than green tea. It can surely set the clock back to your youger look [12].

Not just the juice-filled pulp, the entire seeds are a rich source of antioxidants. It protects us from free radical damages also.

It has excellent anti-inflammatory property, provides skin protection from sun damage, increase collagen production and repair the already damaged skin [13].

Tips: Indulge yourself on red juicy pulp, 
don’t through away the seeds.

12. Fatty fish

 Fatty fish contains omega-3 fatty acids having many health benefits along with skin remedies.

It has anti-inflammatory effects as well and protects skin from sun damage to look your skin younger.

This can protect the skin from sun damage too. Fatty fish like salmon contains an antioxidant namely astaxanthin which helps to improve the skin elasticity and hydration [14].

Tips: Grill salmon with a little lemon juice 
and enjoy with cooked vegetables.

Now, don’t forget to take these items in your daily diet if you want to stop the clock or to  slow down the ticking of your age.

I think  everyone of us want to live young forever but time has all the power. We only can try to delay the aging of our cells.

Various cosmetics and makeup products are there to look you younger but if you don’t take care of your skin from within, all the outer applications go into vein.

So, indulge yourself in lots of antioxidants and live happy, stay happy.
